Do Etsy Listings Show Up on Google? (Yes — Here's the Data)
Short answer: yes, Etsy listings show up on Google. Etsy is a high-authority website, and Google indexes individual listing and shop pages — so when someone searches Google for the kind of thing you sell, a well-optimized Etsy listing genuinely can appear in the results, right alongside (or instead of) the big marketplaces.
It isn't automatic for every keyword, and you won't outrank Amazon for "headphones." But for the specific, handmade-leaning phrases Etsy shoppers use, ranking on Google is very much in reach — and it's free traffic on top of Etsy's own search.
How much Google demand is there for Etsy searches?
We looked at tens of thousands of real Etsy search terms and cross-checked them against Google search volume. The overlap is bigger than most sellers assume:
- About 1 in 3 (roughly 34%) of the phrases people search on Etsy are also searched on Google.
- About 1 in 5 (roughly 22%) get 1,000 or more Google searches a month — real, substantial demand.
In other words, the same phrase that brings you Etsy buyers is often a phrase people are Googling too — and the Google side is usually the bigger one. In our Etsy vs Google demand report, the median keyword gets about 17× more searches on Google than on Etsy. Ranking your listing for it means one piece of work, two channels of free traffic.
How Google reads your Etsy listing
Google can't see your Etsy sales or favourites — it reads the page. That means the things you already control decide whether you rank:
- Your title becomes the page's title in Google — the single biggest ranking signal (here's how to write an Etsy title that earns it). A specific, front-loaded phrase (“personalized leather dog collar”) does far more than a vague one (“dog collar”).
- Your description is the body text Google reads for context. Write it for a human, in the words buyers actually use.
- Your tags reinforce the phrases you want to be found for — the same 13 tags that help you on Etsy help Google understand the listing.
So there's no separate "Google SEO" to learn: good Etsy SEO is good Google SEO, because both read the same title, description, and tags — our complete guide to Etsy SEO walks through the whole checklist.
How to get found on both
- Target specific 2–3 word phrases with real demand — they're what most shoppers type on both Etsy and Google (see our Etsy Tags by the Numbers data).
- Put your best phrase at the front of the title, where Google weights it most.
- Fill all 13 tags with distinct phrases — check them with the free Etsy tag analyzer.
- Pick phrases with demand but beatable competition — see the State of Etsy Search for why the biggest keywords are the hardest to win, and how to find low-competition keywords that are still worth ranking for.
