Original data · Etsy gift recipients
Etsy runs on gifting, and shoppers say who the gift is for more often than you'd think — 30.1% of gift searches name a recipient. One leads every other relationship: Mom is the most-searched gift recipient on Etsy, about 3.0x as often as Dad. Here's the full ranking — and how to use it.
Of the 1,191 search terms that explicitly say "gift" or "gifts", 30.1% also name who the gift is for — and Mom tops the list by a wide margin, searched about 3.0x as often as Dad. This is the flip side of the occasions data: shoppers rarely type "mother's day gift", but they constantly type "gift for mom". If you want holiday demand, target the recipient, not the calendar.
Share of Etsy gift searches that name each recipient
Below the immediate family, a second tier of gift recipients shows up clearly in the data: teachers, nurses, coworkers, and — a genuinely large Etsy niche — pet parents ("dog mom", "cat mom"). These are relationships people buy for on a schedule (end of term, Nurses Week, work farewells) or identities they shop for all year, and they tend to be far less crowded than the headline recipients. If your product can be personalized for an occupation or a pet, that phrasing is a low-competition way into gifting demand.
Figures are aggregates over Listogics' keyword corpus — 104,296 Etsy keywords gathered from keyword-research data and public top-shop tag reports, with data through 2026-08-12. The analysis covers the 18,281 search terms with real demand (at least 100 average monthly Etsy searches), of which 1,191 are explicit gift searches — the term itself contains "gift" or "gifts". A recipient is only counted inside that gift-search population, so "gifts for mom" counts for Mom but "dog mom shirt" (not a gift search) does not. Recipient shares are the fraction of gift searches naming each relationship; a term can name more than one recipient, so the shares sum to more than the "names any recipient" figure. We publish aggregate shares only — never a keyword paired with its numbers. Figures are directional, not Etsy-official.
